Jim’s show was a great success and we sold 4 prints on opening night. All the guests enjoyed themselves, the food was great…and the music was unbelievably beautiful…

Jim’s Reception: Hope For Tibet

Today is our first solo show featuring Jim McGill and his wonderful portraits of the Tibetan people timed to follow the Olympics. We hung the photos last night (which he refers to as black and white) but have more of a sepia feeling to me. We added some beautiful silk belts for color, brought back by Justin, from his recent visit to Tibet. We backed them with long, black fabric to make them “pop”. Jamie edge the black with some fabulous red Chinese silk I found because if I’d sewn it…well…whew… Kweli was such a help, not only did she get us dinner, but she kept a very tired Mike and myself from killing each other. I am meticulous so it’s easy to get frustrated 😉

Susan, the gallery’s Intern, stayed all day vacuuming, hanging the new T-shirts and setting up tables. She’s a smart, artistic young woman and she did a marvelous job.

Now just the small details before the big show. I hope to see those of you that can come out. I hope Jim has a great show and I wish him the best for success.

Tibetan Amdo Nomads Weave Pattern

Posted in Amdo Nomads, Art, Images, Life, Tibet, travel on August 9, 2008 by anuvuestudio

This is the pattern that represents the Amdo Nomads of Tibet. It is usually used as an accent to the edging of a garment or anything woven… that they use. The colors are both cheerful and hopeful.

Tibet T-Shirt Preview

Posted in Amdo Nomads, Art, Images, Life, Personal, Tibet on August 7, 2008 by anuvuestudio

Last month Anuvue Studio featured our “Damn Bind Monkey” T-Shirts… which were a big hit…and now even upstanding citizens are walking around with a monkey on their back…

Our next show revolves around Jim’s solo show called “Hope for Tibet” and featured here is the new design we will have available. The Amdo Nomads, along with some lovely people that organized the program, supply the Studio with many beautiful handicrafts (I am very proud of them). The colors here represent the same colors the Nomads weave into their own clothing. The symbol itself is the word “Tibet”…in of course…Tibetan 😉
