Flaming Skulls

Some guys in a tricked-out truck stopped to admire my flaming skulls…No doubt they had use for them beyond Halloween. Personally, I think one would look great hanging off my front door. Hey, there might even be a market out there for those wishing to deter unwanted knockers. Kinda like a really punctuated “do not disturb!!!” sign 😉

Anza Borrego

We took the Mangie Wrangie out for some sight seeing at Anza Borrego in search of wildflowers and were not let down. We’ve had a bit more rain this year, so they’re coming up rather nicely, stretching their colorful blooms to reach the bright sunshine. I did get a little carried away with the 4 wheeling and hardly took any shots of the flowers… but oooh, what fun. I drove over a small river, chomped up and over some gnarly boulders, stirred up dust and sand…and zipped by some slow-moving vehicles stuck on the level 2 trail. All those inferior Honda’s, Toyota’s and Mazda’s were left eating my dust. This was level 3. The power of the big red jeep a-coming with me yelling yeeehawwww out of the open windows, hair whipping my face and huge grin… well, they were left to bow down. Mike was either yelling or hanging on for dear life in the passenger seat after he gave me the wheels. But the other Jeepers (old and new) and a sprightly Land Rover were right there with me…all thumbs up. It was wonderful! I pulled over momentarily to take one shot. This is all ya get 😉

Harley Santa and his Reindeer Men

On a recent trip to Silver City, New Mexico, I met a variety of unusual people that were very photo friendly. My favorites were a group of bikers, hanging out at the Buffalo Bar, adjacent next to the coffee house where I sat gulping coffee trying to get warm. The first guy I noticed came walking in with a bright green elf ear hat. He and I made eye contact, he got his own hot joe and was gone. Then, for the next several minutes, I watched a leather and antler fashion show stride in and out until finally…the  big man entered with a box. The entire group got all happy and then started attacking the box. Out came the most beautiful velvet Santa suit, hat, hair and beard. I looked around to see if any children were lurking in confusion, saw none and approached the merry scene. I showed my gear, gave my best crooked smile and was met with a nod and smile. I watched 2 guys dress the big guy, while asking H-type questions the whole time. Turned out the big guy had a grand daughter and an entire elementary school waiting for Harley Santa and his reindeer Men. Once properly attired, they proceeded outside where a Police escort, sat waiting.

He sprang to his Harley, to his team gave a whistle,

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But I heard from his speakers, ‘ere he drove out of sight,

the tune “Jumpin Jack Flash blaring into the night!”
